Wildlife – Whether it's the call of the loon, the honking of a Canada Goose, the sighting of a bald eagle gliding above, or just watching wild turkey, pheasants or the white-tailed deer in their natural habitat, The Shores of Timber Ridge provides these opportunities for the wildlife enthusiast.

Hunting - Northeast South Dakota provides some of the best hunting opportunities found anywhere. The popular ring-necked pheasant, deer, ducks and geese are among the most sought after game. In addition to public land, private land and walk-in areas, there are two wildlife refuges in close proximity to the Shores of Timber Ridge. Bullhead state wildlife refuge is only two miles from the Shores of Timber Ridge, while Waubay National Wildlife Refuge in only approximately a half hour drive. Golf
– The area offers some of the best golfing opportunities available. Three area courses, all within a half hour drive of the Shores of Timber Ridge, offer a challenging variety of holes and tranquil settings. Courses are not crowded as they are in metropolitan areas and prices are reasonable as well. Area courses include: Ortonville Golf Course in Ortonville, MN, Pine Hills Golf Course in Milbank, SD, and Valley View Golf Course in Sisseton, SD.

Fishing – The Glacial Lakes Region of South Dakota is one of the best kept secrets in fresh water fishing. Big Stone Lake is a walleye hotbed and has been featured nationally as a walleye hotspot in magazines such as North American Fisherman.

Entertainment – There is plenty of adventure to experience in the area in addition to the outdoor attractions.

Redlin Art Center - Located in Watertown, South Dakota, the Redlin Art Center is a popular South Dakota destination located just off Interstate 29 less than an hour from the Shores of Timber Ridge. The Redlin Art Center features of work of one America's most famous and popular artist – Terry Redlin. The Redlin Art Center is open year round and admission is free.

Casinos – Three area casinos offer a variety of entertainment all within short driving distance of the Shores of Timber Ridge. Three Dakota Nation Gaming casinos are just off Interstate 29 just a short drive from the Shores of Timber Ridge. Dakota Sioux Casino north of Watertown, Dakota Magic Casino by the North Dakota / South Dakota state line and the Dakota Connection Casino in Sisseton provide great options for entertainment year-round.

Big Stone Island Nature Area – An early 1800s expedition explored the Big Stone Lake area. During that early expedition an American Indian village located on a rocky island was visited that is now the 100 – acre nature area located in close proximity to the Shores of Timber Ridge.

Bonanza State Park – The northern section of the Big Stone Lake State Park is called the Bonanza Area and is located directly across the lake from the Shores of Timber Ridge. Sica Hollow State Park – Visit the Trail of the Spirits, designated a national recreational trail, at Sica Hollow State Park located in the nearby Coteau des Prairies hills. Ancient Indian tribes held this area in awe and a place of origin of many legends.

Ft. Sisseton State Park
- Explore this 1864 fort, attend the annual festival in June, or simply explore the solitude of the area. Ft. Sisseton, originally a frontier army outpost offers an opportunity to experience the region's history of the western frontier.
